What Active Matter is
Active Matter is a shooter game developed by Gaijin Entertainment and released in 2026. It is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Linux and PC (Microsoft Windows). It runs on Dagor Engine.
The premise, in the publisher's words
Battles take place at locations that exist outside of space and time boundaries. Active Matter features a variety of maps, including a huge island with rusty Soviet industrial complexes and cryptic science labs that were among the first to study this new phenomena. Explore these places to find hints on the origin of active matter.
How it plays
It is played from a first person perspective. Its themes are action, science fiction and survival. Available modes: Co-operative, Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) and Multiplayer.
What you need to run it
The minimum specification calls for Core i5-6600 / Ryzen 3 1300X, 8 GB RAM and GTX 1050 Ti / RX 470 / ARC A580. An 8GB memory requirement is modest by current standards; most machines sold in the last five years clear it. Install size is roughly 45GB. Both tiers are compared side by side on the requirements page, and you can check your own parts against them without installing anything.
What it launched against
Active Matter launched on 15 September 2026, within three weeks of Marvel's Wolverine, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Control Resonant and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. It arrived 6 years into the PlayStation 5's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
Released around the same time: Marvel's Wolverine, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Control Resonant, Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
