DMCA & Copyright
How rights holders can request removal, and how we handle it.
TheGameExtras respects copyright. If you own rights to material published here and want it removed, this page tells you exactly what to send so we can action it quickly rather than bouncing your notice back for missing details.
What we publish and why
Cover art, screenshots, trailers and character images appear here for identification, reference and commentary alongside factual information about each game. Game titles, logos and trademarks belong to their respective owners. We believe this use is permitted under fair use in the United States and fair dealing for criticism and review elsewhere — but we do not argue the point with rights holders. If you ask us to remove your material, we remove it.
Sending a takedown notice
Send the following to our contact form with the subject line DMCA notice:
- Your full name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
- The exact URL or URLs on this site where the material appears. A notice that says "your whole site" cannot be actioned.
- A statement that you have a good faith belief the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on their behalf.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
What happens next
We aim to review every complete notice within 48 hours and to remove or disable access to the material promptly where the claim is valid. We will notify you of the outcome. Incomplete notices are returned with a note about what is missing rather than ignored.
Counter-notice
If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a misidentification, send a counter-notice containing your contact details, identification of the removed material and its former location, a statement under penalty of perjury that you believe it was removed in error, your consent to the jurisdiction of your local federal court, and your signature. We may restore the material within 10–14 business days unless the original complainant files a court action.
Repeat infringers
Contributors who repeatedly submit infringing material — including cheat listings copied verbatim from another site — are permanently blocked from submitting.
A note to publishers
If you would prefer a specific image or asset replaced rather than removed entirely, tell us which one to use and we will swap it. In most cases we would rather show your official art than nothing.
