The premise, in the publisher's words
Reventure could be described as a "choose your own adventure" book in the shape of a 2D platformer. It starts out from the classic monomyth premise: "You are a hero, the princess is in danger, go rescue her!" but it quickly gets more complicated than that - until it completely diverges into something completely non-standard.
How it plays
It is played from a side view perspective. Its themes are action, comedy and fantasy. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component.

What it launched against
Reventure launched on 4 June 2019, within three weeks of A Plague Tale: Innocence, Outer Wilds, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. All of them reviewed better. It arrived 2 years into the Nintendo Switch's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
Released around the same time: A Plague Tale: Innocence, Outer Wilds, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.
