It is played from a side view perspective. Its themes are open world, sandbox and survival. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component.

Ratopia launched on 20 November 2024, within three weeks of Delta Force, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Marvel Rivals and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It arrived 4 years into the PlayStation 5's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
