The premise, in the publisher's words
Broken Age is a hand-painted point-and-click adventure that tells two parallel coming-of-age stories the player can switch between at will. Vella Tartine is a young woman selected to be offered up as a willing sacrifice to a monstrous creature during her village's traditional Maiden's Feast, but she refuses to accept her fate and sets out to fight back. Shay Volta is a lonely teenage boy living aboard a spaceship, coddled by an overprotective computer that fills his days with hollow make-believe missions until he yearns to break free. As each teen struggles against the roles imposed on them, their seemingly separate worlds hint at deeper connections waiting to be uncovered.

It is played from a side view perspective. Its themes are comedy, fantasy and science fiction. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component. There are 45 achievements to unlock.

Broken Age launched on 28 January 2014, within three weeks of The Last of Us: Left Behind, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, The Banner Saga and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. All of them reviewed better. It arrived 1 year into the PlayStation 4's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
