What Wuthering Waves is
Wuthering Waves is an adventure game developed by Kuro Games and released in 2024. It is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Android, iOS, Mac and PC (Microsoft Windows). It runs on Unreal Engine 4.
The premise, in the publisher's words
Wuthering Waves is set in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic world after a catastrophe called the Lament wiped out most of humanity and caused unknown beings and monsters, called Tacet Discords, to appear. Humanity adapted to the threat and over time rebuilt civilization. The story follows the amnesiac Rover, who has awakened from a deep slumber and sets out to explore this new world.
How it plays
It is played from a third person perspective. Its themes are action, fantasy, open world and science fiction. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component. Available modes: Co-operative and Single player.
What you need to run it
The minimum specification calls for Intel Core i5 (9th Gen) / Ryzen 2700, 16 GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060/AMD Radeon RX 570/Intel ARC A380. A 16GB memory requirement is demanding — worth checking before you buy, because 8GB is still common in older and budget machines. It also needs around 150GB of free storage, which is a real consideration on a 512GB drive. Both tiers are compared side by side on the requirements page, and you can check your own parts against them without installing anything.
What it launched against
Wuthering Waves launched on 22 May 2024, within three weeks of Hellblade II: Senua's Saga, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Nine Sols and Animal Well. It arrived 4 years into the PlayStation 5's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
Released around the same time: Hellblade II: Senua's Saga, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Nine Sols, Animal Well.
