System Shock 2 is a role-playing (rpg) game developed by Irrational Games and released in 1999. It was published by Electronic Arts. It is available on Linux, Mac and PC (Microsoft Windows). It runs on Dark Engine.
The premise, in the publisher's words
The game takes place on board a starship in a cyberpunk depiction of 2114. The player assumes the role of a lone soldier trying to stem the outbreak of a genetic infection that has devastated the ship. Like System Shock, gameplay consists of first-person shooting and exploration. It also incorporates role-playing system elements, in which the player can develop unique skills and traits, such as hacking and psionic abilities.
How it plays
It is played from a first person perspective. Its themes are action, horror, science fiction and stealth. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component. Available modes: Co-operative and Single player.
How long it takes, and what that costs
The main story runs about 13 hrs. Completing everything takes closer to 32.3 hrs, roughly 2.5 times the length of the critical path.
What you need to run it
The minimum specification calls for 1.8 GHz Processor, 2 GB RAM and 3D graphics card. At 2GB of RAM, it will run on essentially any working PC — that is below what a budget laptop ships with today. Install size is roughly 2GB.
