The premise, in the publisher's words
Stifled is a multi-award winning, VR and Mic-Enabled Sound-Based Survival Thriller, where sound is the only way you see and the enemies HEAR your fear. In Stifled, the sounds made by your in-game character and yourself through microphone input reveal the otherwise hidden world through ‘echolocation’. However, undue noise will attract the attention of creatures lurking in the darkness. To survive, you will have to tread the line between making sounds to see, and staying quiet to stay hidden. (Put the microphone near your nose for even more challenge!)
How it plays
It is played from a first person perspective. Its themes are action, horror, stealth and survival. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component.

What it launched against
Stifled launched on 31 October 2017, within three weeks of Call of Duty: WWII, Super Mario Odyssey, Assassin's Creed Origins and South Park: The Fractured But Whole. All of them reviewed better. It arrived 4 years into the PlayStation 4's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
Released around the same time: Call of Duty: WWII, Super Mario Odyssey, Assassin's Creed Origins, South Park: The Fractured But Whole.
