It is played from a bird view / isometric perspective. Its themes are fantasy. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component.

Stacklands launched on 8 April 2022, within three weeks of The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, Ghostwire: Tokyo, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe. It arrived 5 years into the Nintendo Switch's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
