The premise, in the publisher's words
Atrus asks you to undertake a perilous mission where your success is far from assured. Travel to Riven, a mysterious island-filled land on the verge of collapse, to rescue Atrus’ wife, Catherine. She is being held captive by Gehn, Atrus’ father and the self-declared overlord of Riven. Explore Riven, solve puzzles to reveal its mysteries, find Catherine, and make your escape.
How it plays
It is played from a first person perspective. Its themes are fantasy, mystery and science fiction. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component. There are 34 achievements to unlock.

It arrived 4 years into the PlayStation 5's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
