The premise, in the publisher's words

How it was received

Games released in 2021 averaged 74, so it scored 21 points above the year average. Players rate it 88, 7 points lower than critics did — a gap worth knowing about before you buy.
What it launched against
Quake launched on 19 August 2021, within three weeks of Psychonauts 2, Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, Twelve Minutes and Black Book. It reviewed better than all of them. It arrived 1 year into the PlayStation 5's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
Released around the same time: Psychonauts 2, Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, Twelve Minutes, Black Book.
