The premise, in the publisher's words
After years of tireless explorations, brave Vikings have discovered a new land filled with mystery, danger and riches: Northgard. The boldest Northmen have set sail to explore and conquer these new shores, bring fame to their Clan and write history through conquest, trading, or devotion to the Gods. That is, if they can survive the dire wolves and undead warriors roaming the land, befriend or defeat the giants, and survive the harshest winters ever witnessed in the North.

It is played from a bird view / isometric perspective. Its themes are fantasy and survival. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component. Available modes: Co-operative, Multiplayer and Single player. There are 289 achievements to unlock.

What you need to run it
The minimum specification calls for Intel 2.0ghz Core 2 Duo or equivalent, 1 GB RAM and Nvidia 450 GTS / Radeon HD 5750 or better. At 1GB of RAM, it will run on essentially any working PC — that is below what a budget laptop ships with today. Install size is roughly 1GB. What it launched against
Northgard launched on 7 March 2018, within three weeks of Far Cry 5, Sea of Thieves, A Way Out and Into the Breach. It reviewed better than 2 of the 4. It arrived 5 years into the PlayStation 4's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
