The premise, in the publisher's words
LibreQuake is an on-going project to create free content game data for the Quake engine, which alongside being a game in its own right, allows the play of various mods and total conversions without requiring the original proprietary commercial assets. It is the second attempt at this, having been preceded by Open Quartz in the 2000s. LibreQuake was founded in 2019 and aims for a Lovecraftian theme. The game is released under a three clause BSD license similar to Freedoom.
How it plays
It is played from a first person perspective. Its themes are action, fantasy, horror and science fiction. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component.
