Nick, an orphan who has learned to survive on the fringes, is being transported under custody to the police station when the journey spirals out of control. Sheriff Robert, an old acquaintance of his family, begins to act erratically. The conversation grows tense, control of the vehicle slips… and a sudden skid brings them to a halt in front of an isolated motel in the desert: the Amberhusk.
