The premise, in the publisher's words
In the beginning, There was only the void and Zethar, a powerful Archon, alone in infinity. Craving companionship, he attempted to create life, but the soulless beings he formed were fleeting and insubstantial. Realizing that something was missing, Zethar sacrificed half of his power and devised a grand system - Epitome - that would give souls a place to exist and thrive. He invited ten souls from another universe - to nurture these new souls, Zethar created M1 - the Land of Beginnings - where new souls could start their journey.
