The premise, in the publisher's words
Darknet is the hacking VR game we’ve all been waiting for since our first viewing of HACKERS, Johnny Mnemonic, or Tron… Everything I wanted out of a hacking game since 1995. The future is finally here and I’m cracking nodes, dropping viruses, staying one-step ahead of security
How it plays
It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component.
How it was received
Darknet holds a critic score of 83 out of 100. That places it above 80% of the 5,098 rated indie games in our database, which average 72. Games released in 2014 averaged 69, so it scored 14 points above the year average.
What you need to run it
The minimum specification calls for Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater, 4 GB RAM and NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater. At 4GB of RAM, it will run on essentially any working PC — that is below what a budget laptop ships with today. Install size is roughly 2GB.
What it launched against
Darknet launched on 8 December 2014, within three weeks of Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4, Tales from the Borderlands and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. All of them reviewed better. It arrived 1 year into the PlayStation 4's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
Released around the same time: Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4, Tales from the Borderlands, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
