What Dandara is
Dandara is an adventure game developed by Long Hat House and released in 2018. It was published by Raw Fury. It is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, iOS, Linux, Mac and PC (Microsoft Windows). It runs on Unity.
The premise, in the publisher's words
"As a metroidvania carefully designed with both touch and gamepad in mind, we considered how you could achieve exploration and fast action using either input. The result was a gravity bending world where movement is comprised of jumping from surface to surface in lovingly crafted environments. It's up to Dandara to restore balance and give direction to a directionless world!"
How it plays
It is played from a side view perspective. Its themes are action and fantasy. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component. There are 23 achievements to unlock.
How it was received
Dandara holds a critic score of 69 out of 100. That places it above 32% of the 7,525 rated adventure games in our database, which average 72. Games released in 2018 averaged 69, so it scored about average for its year.
What you need to run it
The minimum specification calls for 1.8 GHz Processor, 4 GB RAM and Nvidia GeForce GT 220, Radeon HD 8400. At 4GB of RAM, it will run on essentially any working PC — that is below what a budget laptop ships with today. Install size is roughly 1GB. Both tiers are compared side by side on the requirements page, and you can check your own parts against them without installing anything.
What it launched against
Dandara launched on 6 February 2018, within three weeks of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Monster Hunter: World, Celeste and Shadow of the Colossus. All of them reviewed better. It arrived 5 years into the PlayStation 4's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
Released around the same time: Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Monster Hunter: World, Celeste, Shadow of the Colossus.
