What Crossout is
Crossout is a racing game developed by Targem Games and released in 2017. It was published by Gaijin Entertainment. It is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (Microsoft Windows). It runs on Unity.
The premise, in the publisher's words
Crossout is a free-to-play vehicular combat video game focused on building and driving custom vehicles in PvP and PvE scenarios. It is developed by Targem Games and published by Gaijin Entertainment for Android, IOS, Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. As of 2021, PlayPark, part of AsiaSoft, acquired the game's server of Asian territories.
How it plays
It is played from a third person perspective. Its themes are action. It supports multiplayer for up to 16 players online. Available modes: Co-operative, Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) and Multiplayer. There are 193 achievements to unlock.
How it was received
Crossout holds a critic score of 65 out of 100. That places it above 35% of the 1,168 rated racing games in our database, which average 68. Games released in 2017 averaged 71, so it scored 6 points below the year average. Player ratings track closely with critics at 63, across 64 votes.
How long it takes, and what that costs
The main story runs about 4 hrs. Completing everything takes closer to 3,000 hrs, roughly 750 times the length of the critical path.
What you need to run it
The minimum specification calls for 4-core processor Intel Core™ i5-2310 or AMD FX-4100, 4 GB RAM and AMD Radeon HD 7000 series, Nvidia GeForce 500 series. At 4GB of RAM, it will run on essentially any working PC — that is below what a budget laptop ships with today. Install size is roughly 18GB. Both tiers are compared side by side on the requirements page, and you can check your own parts against them without installing anything.
What it launched against
Crossout launched on 30 May 2017, within three weeks of Injustice 2, Tekken 7, RiME and WipEout Omega Collection. All of them reviewed better. It was a PlayStation 5 launch-window title.
Released around the same time: Injustice 2, Tekken 7, RiME, WipEout Omega Collection.
