What Absolver is
Absolver is an adventure game developed by Sloclap and released in 2017. It was published by Devolver Digital. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Linux, Mac and PC (Microsoft Windows). It runs on Unreal Engine 4.
The premise, in the publisher's words
Absolver is a martial arts action role-playing game set in the fictional, fallen land of Adal. Players take on the role of a masked warrior called a Prospect, one of many wanderers seeking to prove their worth and earn a place among the peacekeeping order known as the Absolvers. Bound to a mask that suppresses hunger and fatigue, the Prospect roams the ruins of a collapsed empire, testing their skills against other fighters and honing their own personal combat style. The journey is as much about self-discovery and finding one's place in a broken world as it is about mastering the art of the fight.
How it plays
It is played from a third person perspective. Its themes are action and fantasy. It is a single-player game with no multiplayer component. Available modes: Co-operative, Multiplayer and Single player. There are 22 achievements to unlock.
How it was received
Absolver holds a critic score of 75 out of 100. That places it above 49% of the 7,525 rated adventure games in our database, which average 72. Games released in 2017 averaged 71, so it scored 4 points above the year average. Players rate it 68, 7 points lower than critics did — a gap worth knowing about before you buy.
What you need to run it
The minimum specification calls for Intel Core i7-950 (4 * 3000) or equivalent / AMD Phenom II X4 965 (4 * 3400) or equivalent, 4 GB RAM and GeForce GTX 480 (1536 MB) / Radeon HD 7850 (2048 MB). At 4GB of RAM, it will run on essentially any working PC — that is below what a budget laptop ships with today. Install size is roughly 11GB. Both tiers are compared side by side on the requirements page, and you can check your own parts against them without installing anything.

What it launched against
Absolver launched on 29 August 2017, within three weeks of Destiny 2, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Divinity: Original Sin II and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. All of them reviewed better. It arrived 4 years into the PlayStation 4's life, so it was built for hardware developers already knew well.
Released around the same time: Destiny 2, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Divinity: Original Sin II, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
